Behind the Stitches

Every maker has an origin story, but mine isn’t a straight line; it’s a tapestry. Twenty-plus years of crocheting, knitting, sewing, mending, experimenting, unraveling, and re-stitching have shaped the hands behind Knotorious Yarn Alchemist. Fiber arts have been woven into my life for decades a constant companion through chaos, healing, motherhood, and reinvention.

Where It All Began

I’ve been crafting since I was young; yarn, fabric, thread, whatever I could get my hands on. Over the years I learned to crochet, knit, sew, embroider, and improvise my way through just about any creative challenge. If it could be made with fiber, I wanted to figure out how.
But the moment this turned from “a thing I do” into “a thing I am” happened because of my husband.
One day, one of his coworkers saw the Rimuru Tempest slime plush I made for him. He looked at it, looked at my husband, and asked, “Do you think she could make a Spider-Man?”

My husband didn’t even hesitate. “Oh, she can make anything.”

And honestly? He wasn’t wrong. That Spider-Man became my first official commission; the spark that lit the fuse.

Why I Don’t Work a “Normal” Job

I live with full-body neuropathy, the result of a botched C-section that left me permanently disabled. A Texas doctor made the cut — and I’ve been living with the consequences ever since. Some doctors believe it’s more than neuropathy. I’m currently undergoing tests to find out if it’s ANS (or whatever alphabet soup diagnosis they’re tossing around this time — eye roll included).
This body doesn’t do 9-to-5. But it does stitch. It does create. It does archive. It does resist.
Crafting isn’t just what I do — it’s how I keep sane. It’s how I reclaim control. It’s how I build something beautiful out of pain.

Building a Business, One Stitch at a Time

After that, I started sharing my creations online: Facebook, BlueSky, Instagram, and Twitter. My little portfolio grew. People shared my work. Orders trickled in. Then poured in. Then… reality hit.

  • Some people ordered and never paid.
  • Some canceled halfway through.
  • Some disappeared entirely.

And I still finished the pieces and sold them anyway, because the craft mattered more than the chaos.
Then came the trolls. False reports. Harassment. Entire pages deleted. Years of work were wiped out because someone decided to be petty and obsessed.
But here’s the thing about fiber artists: we know how to rebuild. We know how to take something unraveled and turn it into something stronger.

What This Space Is

Knotorious Yarn Alchemist isn’t just a shop or a gallery. It’s a safe place. A warm place. A woke place. A place where antifascists, allies, LGBTQ+ folks, neurodivergent folks, and anyone who’s ever been pushed to the margins can breathe a little easier.
I’m a mom to a rainbow, miracle, autistic boy, and that alone has taught me more about patience, resilience, and unconditional love than any craft ever could. This space reflects that. It’s built with intention, softness, and fire.

What I Make

Plushies. Clothing. Accessories. Blankets. Original creatures. Fan favorites. Comfort objects. And sometimes, things that don’t have names or make sense yet.

If you can imagine it, I can probably stitch it.

Why I Keep Going

Because craft is resistance. Because softness is strength. Because trolls don’t get the last word. Because my son deserves to see his mom create without fear. Because every stitch is a story and I’m not done telling mine.
Welcome to my corner of the yarniverse. Settle in. Stay warm. And enjoy the magic behind the stitches.
